The Fear of Failure - Welch Report
Perhaps the most important mistake you'll make is being afraid to form an error . what's the worst which will happen? In most cases it'll be minor. do not be afraid to mention "I screwed up". "I was wrong".
You might dent your ego and feel a touch embarrassed, but people will respect your candor and honesty and willingness to admit you're not infallible which you'll and do make mistakes. they're going to appreciate your willingness to simply accept responsibility. An unusual trait.
Who doesn't make mistakes? what's the worst which will happen in most cases? Your idea didn't work? Your added efforts didn't pay off as you had hoped?
So what? you'll have gained invaluable lessons along the way. Failure are often the simplest teacher of all.
Never be afraid to undertake , to stretch yourself, to suggest new ways of doing things or new ideas.
Too many of us are so concerned with the possible consequences of creating an error that they're going to let a chance travel by instead of take a risk.
They will stagnate instead of seek improvement. they're going to keep silent instead of speak up with a thought for improvement. If your ancestors were scared of change, of challenge, of failure, we'd still be starting fires by banging two rocks together.
Most folks anticipate failure rather than success.
We avoid trying because we fear humiliation or pain. We fear and worry about what others might think if we even try, never mind if we fail.
The fear of what others think is usually a key think about holding yourself back.
The sad truth is that the majority people don't believe you or I anywhere near the maximum amount as we expect they are doing . In fact, many don't believe us in the least .
Most are far too busy worrying about themselves and what they need or do not have . they need too many of their own goals, problems, and issues to stress close to spend much of any time thinking of you.
So I ask you, why does one care what most others think or what their opinions of you are?
The fear of failure, of others, of ridicule, only exists in your mind at now . By fearing this stuff before you even try, you're creating the negativity you anticipate. you're laying a foundation of fear. you're building a reservoir of rationale to draw upon as you convince yourself to not try.
By allowing your actions to be controlled in any way by your fear of what others might imagine of you, you're directly allowing those people to regulate your actions.
You are giving them power over you. Never do this!
You are holding yourself back. Your career is being influenced by these people. Your life is being influenced by what you think that these people will consider you.
It is this serious.
You may be prohibiting yourself from growing, from getting into subsequent level of private capability.
Your fear of what others think are often one among the only , largest reasons why you never reach the extent you're capable of. believe this.
But believe the source of most of those fears. You. Your mind. In many cases, you're the matter .
Yes, in some cases people will scorn you publicly. they're going to question you and invite out loud who you think that you're to think you'll do a far better job, suggest improvement, become management material or anybody of 100 other things. they need to carry you back.
Don't you dare allow them to .
Defy mediocrity by defying these people. True leaders, those that pursue excellence, those whose opinions you ought to care about, don't think this manner .
Also, believe the very fact that a lot of of those people you're so worried about, whether you'll admit it or not, are folks that have achieved nothing or little or no in their lives. Their accomplishments are mediocre at the best .
Let me also offer you a tip. Most won't want to ascertain you get ahead. they're going to not appreciate your drive.
They will not support your efforts to enhance . Most are going to be jealous. they're going to see you trying to raised yourself and can feel worse about themselves as a result. It makes little sense but it's true.
Be careful of taking note of these people. they're going to often tell you why you cannot do things and whether or not they are well meaning or self-serving, the result could also be an equivalent . they're going to feed your fears and supply you with more self-justifications for not trying or for abandoning or settling.
Also, be very careful on who you ask advice or input from. People often ask advice and seek approval from others but altogether too many cases they're posing for advice and input from people that most frequently haven't accomplished anything that qualifies them to supply this recommendation or input.
Would you ask a pauper the way to get rich? Then why would you ask a co-worker, relative or neighbor about something they need never done and ignoramus or little about?
Whether it's your fear of what others might think or your fear of failure, by thinking of all the possible negative outcomes, you're providing yourself an inexhaustible pool of reasons and excuses to draw upon to convince yourself how wise you're to not try, to not risk, to not take an opportunity .
You are feeding yourself the self-serving justifications you would like to justify your inaction.
You are your own worst enemy. you've got met the enemy within.
You are spending all of your time establishing why you cannot or shouldn't, rather than why you'll , could, or should.
Why is this?
We have been conditioned to simply accept and even strive for mediocrity. To not extend ourselves. To follow and not lead. To risk avoidance. to evolve . To be an equivalent . To fear mistakes.
We have been conditioned to the present level by many.
Some who are well meaning, some who want to carry us back.
Your fears are often defeated. they will be overcome.
Action defeats fear.
Preparedness defeats fear.
Faith in yourself defeats fear.
High self-esteem defeats fear.
A willingness to risk making an error defeats fear.
If you cannot embrace belief in yourself, in your ability, a minimum of suspend disbelief. a minimum of give yourself the prospect to enhance , to form a bigger impact.
Don't sabotage yourself just because you cannot envision the items you fear understanding right. Don't hold yourself back by the fears that exist in your mind.
Being referred to as someone not afraid to form a choice and take action and who is large enough to admit making mistakes and can take action to correct them may be a reputation you ought to be proud to possess .
Without some risk of failure or error nothing will ever get accomplished. Playing it safe won't get you or your company anywhere. this is often like running on a treadmill.
You undergo tons of motions but you never get anywhere.
Few results, large or small, are often achieved without some risk, some price being paid.
Fear holds most of the people back. Fear of failure. Fear of ridicule. Fear of risk. Fear of rejection. Most fears are only in your mind.
Stand up and stand out.
Fear is one shore that borders the ocean of mediocrity. Defy it.
